Anyway, for the past few weeks, SP primers had been organising SGB in SP, collecting food items for the needy. And today was the distribution of these collected items. For my group, we have been assigned Bedok. Damn. Far.
Anyway, this activity (?) had been an eye-opener for some of us. Even the most crappy person in my group admitted learning some lessons, seeing the 'back' side of Singapore for the first time.

This particular family we went to is in such a miserable state. The food items in their house were all so old, the TV small, and they sleep on mattresses on the floor of the living room. The father has blood cancer, his medications initially cost $8000, but was reduced to $6000, but luckily subsidised and is now free for him. The mother is sick recently, and both of them are not working. No income at all. The mother got sabo-ed in her previous jobs, and jobs were competed by Chinese nationals. Their relatives are a bunch of realistic bastards who don't give a damn about them at all because they have no money. This family did not even have rice for the past New Years. Their children are all too young to support the family, the eldest being only 12. They were so happy someone came to visit them, and kept chatting with us, sharing their stories. We brought quite a substantial amount of food, from packet noodles, to canned food, to rice, to tins of biscuits. Enough to last them for a while I think.
I did a good deed today. :)
